Fighting for decent work for all

The World Day for Decent Work 2010 in Argentina

In relation to job insecurity worldwide, the figures are alarming:

Youth employment:
- In 2009, 81 million young people were unemployed.
- The youth unemployment grew by between 11.9% and 13% between 2007 and 2009.
- In 2008, nearly 152 million young workers (about 25% of the world's poor) were living with an income of less than U $ D 1.25 per day.
Child labour:
- The number of child workers worldwide is 215 million, only 7 million less than in 2004.
- There are still 115 million children in occupations regarded as dangerous.
- There has been an alarming increase of child labour, from 52 million to 62 million in the group of boys and girls between 15 and 17 years.

These advances are the result of putting decent employment at the center of public policy, which means that actions taken during the past few years had among its priorities the promotion of work with social welfare.

At FOCO we know that deficits are still huge, and there is a many tasks ahead, so on the World Day for Decent Work we call to continue putting decent work as a strategy for social inclusion and we reiterate our commitment to continue fighting to ensure fundamental human right. More information in Foco website (ES)
