Pakistan: Resolution on empowering home based women workers adopted!
Mr. Nasir Mansoor, Deputy General Secretary National of Trade Union Federation and LEF (member of the Global Network) have recently met with the Minister for Women Development to celebrate the adoption of the resolution on home based women work*
The passed resolution - dedicated to fulfil the requirement of the ILO's Home Work Convention 177 and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women - recommended the Government to
1. take immediate and proactive steps for the empowerment of 8.52 million Home Based workers in Pakistan; 2. recognize the Home based Workers in different categories of labour laws; 3. that a campaign at the Union Council level be started to register the HBW.
Moreover, the National of Trade Union Federation and LEF demand that the following issues are addressed quickly: non- discrimination at work place, elimination of child labour as well as bounded labour, fixation of minimum wages and working hours.

*Home-based business or cottage industry products in Pakistan range from incense sticks, bangle decorations to women's and children's apparel. They also cover carpet making, fruit cleaning, prawn peeling and packing, box making, pottery and stitching jute/gunny bags. These are major sources of income among a large number of Pakistan's poor.
