DWRC undertakes a learning visit to the Self Employment Women Association in India

Since women in Palestine continue to be highly marginalized in the labor market, specially women who work in the informal economy for long hours, with little  consideration for their work and lack of  protection, rights such as other workers or assets and regulatory frameworks, DWRC went on an exposure visit to the Self Employment Women Association (SEWA) in India for a one week training from November 22nd to 29th, 2010. The purpose of the visit was to learn from SEWA's long experience in organizing and empowering informal economy women in order to apply it in Palestine and learn how to effectively help Palestinian women in securing a livelihood by overcoming social and economic barriers. SEWA, a more than 1,200,000 member organization established in 1972 focuses on organizing and empowering women, preparing them to become self-reliant, providing them with social security and capacity building, and has won widespread international recognition for its outstanding services to the women of India.
