Global Network Latin America organises the third edition of the international seminar on labour migration

On 13 January, the third edition of the International Seminar "The rights of workers in the Peruvian labour migration: Opportunities and Challenges" took place in Lima at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

The seminar was organised by the Mesa Intersindical para las Migraciones Laborales (MIML) and its strategic allies (the regional coordinator of The Global Network PLADES, the Spanish Trade Union Institute for Development Cooperation (ISCOD – UGT), The Catholic University Sedes Sapientiae (UCSS), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Project Migrandina of the International Labour Organisation). The event’s objective was to evaluate the progress made in the management of labour migration issues in Peru. It provided an opportunity for reflection and discussion about the current national policies on labour migration. The participants identified the main challenges that need to be addressed by the different actors involved and highlighted the importance of a strong cooperation and collaboration between all actors. The seminar was attended by Peruvian workers, immigrant workers, public administration authorities, officials of international organisations related to the topic and civil society organisations including associations of families of Peruvian migrants abroad.

This joint initiative renewed the commitment to labour migration as one of the most important topics on the transnational political agenda due to the substantial increase of both migrant workers in Peru and Peruvian labour migrants in the rest of the world.
