Youth = Vulnerable? Decent Work for Young People in Colombia

Youth = Vulnerable? Decent Work for Young People in Colombia

On the UN International Youth Year (12 August), the Escuela Nacional Sindical de Colombia (ENS) launched its report on the labour market for young people in Colombia.

In this report, available in Spanish, the ENS highlights that high levels of unemployment among young people raises their vulnerability. The lack of opportunities may indeed lead them to accepting precarious working conditions.

At the global level, figures published by the ILO are not more encouraging: the report ILO Global Employment Trends for Youth 2010 says that of some 620 million economically active youth aged 15 to 24 years, 81 million were unemployed at the end of 2009 - the highest number ever. These figures are supposed to increase in 2010.
