Six-point Social Protection Agenda Launched
Quezon City, Philippines - Over a hundred non-government organizations from all over the Philippines banded together in an effort to convince the now seated President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to adopt their pro-poor social protection agenda. Under the umbrella network known as KAMP or Kampanya para sa Makataong Pamumuhay (Dignified Life for All Campaign), these organizations proposed a six-point agenda that seeks to prioritize people’s rights to work, food, shelter, health, water and electricity, and social insurance.
On June 22, the proposed agenda was formally presented to the media, key legislators, union leaders, academics, youth volunteers, civil society organizations, urban poor and Liberal Party (the party of the current Philippine president) representatives. The agenda presentation is part of the three-day series of activities on social protection. Global Network-Asia, in cooperation with the Labor Education and Research Network (LEARN), was able to partake in this significant advocacy moment by highlighting social protection for workers in the Collective Labor Agenda, which is being pushed for by key labor groups.
