All the organizations of Argentina ask for an approval without delay of the Glacier Law
The undersigned organizations wish to express our full commitment to the project "Minimum Budget Law for the Preservation Glaciers and periglacial Environment " passed the House of Representatives at the meeting of August 11, 2010 (known as the draft agreement between Senator Daniel Filmus and Deputy Miguel Bonasso). This text contains all the elements necessary to establish an effective system of protection of glaciers and periglacial areas and a monitoring system.
There is general agreement worldwide on the fundamental value that both glaciers and periglacial level have reserves of fresh water as well as on the urgent need that requires protection against high environmental impact activities that could cause irreversible damage on them.
The scope and the tools that raise the initial approval of the Lower House are essential for the immediate and adequate protection of water reserves and mountain ecosystems in which we find the presence of glaciers and periglacial areas contributing to support local and regional economies.
It is vital that the National Senate approved without delay this project, as sanctioned in the Lower House, to give not only the necessary protection for these vital resources, but also an effective strategic planning for an area of significant environmental value as is the Cordillera de los Andes.
