Side event at UN MDG Summit: 'Decent Work & the MDGs: Keeping the promise'

On 21 September, about 100 participants attended the Global Network/ITUC/SOLIDAR UN MDG Summit side event on 'Decent work and the MDGs'. The Global Network report on decent work and the Millennium Development Goals was also launched at this event. The event, hosted by Conny Reuter, included speakers Jane Stewart (ILO), Sharan Burrow (ITUC), Mira Said (DWRC), Georgina Opoku Amankwah (ITUC - Africa Women's Committee) and Yonnec Polet (PES).

Sharan Burrow spoke about the window of opportunity that has opened where a shift in development policies could be made to put decent work and global social protection at the heart. She also underlined her readiness to work with civil society and SOLIDAR on making this change happen. Jane Stewart welcomed the progress made in the Summit outcome document when it comes to decent work and called for a large coalition to keep pressure high.
